2 Corinthians 12:7

So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations , a thorn was given me in the flesh , a messenger of Satan to harass me , to keep me from becoming conceited .

or because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.

And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
