But know this , that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming , he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into .

But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.

But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
