Psalms 30

¹ Joy Comes with the Morning A Psalm of David . A song at the dedication of the temple . I will extol you, O Lord , for you have drawn me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me.

² O Lord my God , I cried to you for help, and you have healed me.

³ O Lord , you have brought up my soul from Sheol ; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit .

⁴ Sing praises to the Lord , O you his saints , and give thanks to his holy name .

⁵ For his anger is but for a moment , and his favor is for a lifetime . Weeping may tarry for the night , but joy comes with the morning .

⁶ As for me, I said in my prosperity , I shall never be moved .

⁷ By your favor , O Lord , you made my mountain stand strong ; you hid your face ; I was dismayed .

⁸ To you, O Lord , I cry , and to the Lord I plead for mercy:

⁹ What profit is there in my death , if I go down to the pit ? Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness ?

¹⁰ Hear , O Lord , and be merciful to me! O Lord , be my helper !

¹¹ You have turned for me my mourning into dancing ; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness ,

¹² that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent . O Lord my God , I will give thanks to you forever !

¹ I will exalt you, Lord, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me.

² Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.

³ You, Lord, brought me up from the realm of the dead; you spared me from going down to the pit.

⁴ Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people; praise his holy name.

⁵ For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.

⁶ When I felt secure, I said, “I will never be shaken.”

⁷ Lord, when you favored me, you made my royal mountain stand firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed.

⁸ To you, Lord, I called; to the Lord I cried for mercy:

⁹ “What is gained if I am silenced, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness?

¹⁰ Hear, Lord, and be merciful to me; Lord, be my help.”

¹¹ You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,

¹² that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. Lord my God, I will praise you forever.

¹ I will extol thee, O Lord; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.

² O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.

³ O Lord, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave : thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

⁴ Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

⁵ For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life : weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

⁶ And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.

⁷ Lord, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong : thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.

⁸ I cried to thee, O Lord; and unto the Lord I made supplication.

⁹ What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?

¹⁰ Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me: Lord, be thou my helper.

¹¹ Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing : thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
